Based on the book Slaying the Dragon, this workshop uses the latest research on brain functioning and psychotherapy to teach an efficient, systematic, proven-effective method of achieving true healing, transformation, and substantial, durable change. Participants will be guided step by step through the sequence of activities designed to help you heal and move forward in life.

If you want to improve your life, and you're willing to work for it, the Slaying the Dragon weekend retreat will get you on track!

This program is designed for groups of teens or adults. We have done this with people who know each other (e.g., teens living in the same orphanage or residential treatment program; foster parents in the same agency), as well as people in the same community (e.g., in the same college or city). Please note that:

  • This is not group therapy. It is an educational workshop focused on personal development and therapeutic processes.
  • The workshop has many experiential components. Participants are always in charge of what they choose to work on (or not), as well as what they choose to disclose or keep private.

Typical Workshop Schedule

The Slaying the Dragon retreat/workshop usually runs from Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. Although it can vary, here is the typical schedule:

Friday Evening:

  • What is trauma?
  • The impact of past trauma & loss on present functioning
  • The step-by-step system for healing and achievement

Saturday Morning:

  • Self-evaluation
  • Stabilization and minimizing the prominence of current problems

Saturday Afternoon:

  • Self-management skills
  • Enhancing secure attachment status
  • Reducing stress
  • Trauma resolution strategies

Sunday Morning:

  • Trauma resolution
  • After trauma resolution -- then what?
  • How to find the right therapist
  • Personal healing & achievement plan, and next steps
